This is a tribute to the Marowak (aka Cubone's mother)
I have played the old versions of Red and Blue. However I never thought there was some "dark side" in the games. One of them is about Cubone's mother, who got killed by Team Rocket and that her spirit haunts the Pokemon Tower.
As a child, I have read the text about that story but never fazed me. I guess all that I cared about was training my Pokemon. The music in Lavender Town still creeps me out though. >.>

I never played red or blue, i played yellow but never got that far, but leafgreen is when i made it to lavender town. When i heard about cubones mother, it was truly a sad tale. Then when i got soulsilver and went to lavender town, i was outraged when i found that pokemon tower got converted into a radio tower.
